Bourbon Cream Floats can be served as shots or as full-size drinks. Ice cream and root beer get a little boozy boost with a shot of bourbon cream making this a really fun drink to serve at parties, cookouts, and especially when the weather is warm!
It is no secret that I really like to add bourbon to my sweet treats. I have Bourbon Peach French Toast, Bourbon Cheesecake, Vanilla Bourbon Glaze poured over Brown Butter Pumpkin Cake, Bourbon Hot Chocolate — I mean… I can keep going, but I think you get the idea.
So of course my friend Tanya knew that sending me BOURBON CREAM would be the most happily received gift EVER.
She also tipped me off to the fact that pouring Bourbon Cream over ice cream was like the most amazing little treat. She said, “It tastes like a root beer float!”
So.
Of course I had to test that theory out. AND THEN I added root beer.
When I was a kid my dad would every now and then have a major sweet tooth attack and come home with a half gallon of vanilla ice cream and a 2 liter of root beer. I can remember crowding around him in the kitchen, anticipating the foamy root beer coating a big creamy scoop of ice cream dotted with vanilla bean freckles. We were full of annoying sips and slurps (<<— like I cringe even typing that word) and the tippy-tapping of iced tea spoons hitting the bottom of an insulated plastic cup . It is one of my favorite memories.
As an adult I still totally love an ice cold root beer with a burger sometimes. There are no more 2 liters, but I do keep a secret stash of glass bottles in the back of the beer drawer in the fridge. I know my brother still has that same sweet nostalgia because whenever he is here he grabs one of those cold bottles and we talk about how much we adore root beer floats.
This easy drink is my grown up version of those happy memories. Bourbon Cream Floats can be served as little sippy shots or as a full-size drink. I made mine in these mini mason jar glasses because they are cute and I bought them for just this reason.
How fun are these for parties?!!
Let’s celebrate.
- ½ scoop vanilla ice cream (2 - 3 tablespoons or about ⅛ cup)
- 1½ ounces Bourbon Cream
- 2 -3 ounces root beer
- Add the ice cream to the mug or cocktail glass (see note). Pour the Bourbon Cream over the ice cream and then slowly pour in the root beer.
- Serve with fun straws and/or little spoons!
For a festive frosty touch freeze the glasses before serving!
